These are the most delicious, fluffy homestyle cheddar and chive sourdough biscuits. Although they are made with active sourdough starter, it's less than an hour prep time! This recipe provides the basis for conjuring the classic, southern biscuit flavor with a delicious sourdough twist. You can layer in any fun combination of cheeses and spices, but the sharp cheddar chive combo is top tier.
Total prep time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup freshly grated sharp cheddar (or substitute for gruyere or another cheese)
- 1/2 cup chives
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 3 tablespoons water
Recipe:
Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Cut thin slices of the butter into the bowl and mix together well with a fork or hands.
- Add in the cheese and chives. Slowly add in starter and mix well to create a soft dough. The starter may glob together, so make sure to get the flour mixture integrated with the starter (Do not add too much cheese, as that may prevent the flour from sticking together in this step). Knead the dough for a few minutes. Option to add a splash of water if the dough is still not coming together during kneading.
- Lay the dough on a lined baking sheet and carefully stretch / knead into a long rectangle. Cut into biscuit sized squares, about 10-12 pieces.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.

Sneak peak at the airy, cheesy insides of the biscuits below. Usually I lather a biscuit in butter, but these suckers truly had everything you need baked in.
